Ryanair has reported a 30% increase in passenger numbers for January.

The airline said that passenger numbers grew by 1.3 million to over 5.98 million last month.

It load factor - how many seats it fills on each flight - also increased to 83% from 71% the same month the previous year.

Earlier this week, Ryanair again raised its profit guidance on the back of a strong performance in its third financial quarter.

The airline was boosted by improvements in its much maligned customer service which has resulted in higher ticket fares and increased passenger numbers.

The airline is now looking at full year profit of around €850m - that is up from the €810-830m range it was previously expecting.

It reported a profit of €49m in the three months to the end of December - up substantially on the loss of €35m the same time last year.
