DIY retailer Homebase has confirmed that it is planning to close its store in Longford.
The company said it had entered a period of consultation with staff at the store in relation to the proposed closure, adding that it would be “working with them over the next few weeks to support them as much as possible”.
The retailer could not confirm how many jobs could be affected by a decision to close the outlet.
Homebase’s Irish business entered examinership in 2013, blaming the economic downturn and high rents.
It closed two stores – in Carlow and Castlebar – as part of its exit from this process, with the loss of over 50 jobs.
However its 13 remaining stores, where it employed almost 500 people, continued to operate following the examinership exit.
