The owner of UPC Ireland's parent company Liberty Global has bought the Limerick Strand Hotel for more than €20m.
John Malone, who already owns three hotels in Dublin city centre - the Hilton Hotel, Trinity City Hotel and the Westin Hotel - as well as the 400 acre Humewood Castle estate in Co Wicklow.
This latest acquisition, which is a four-star hotel built in 2007, has 184 bedrooms as well as dining and leisure facilities.
CBRE and Savills confirmed the sale and said that while an exact price had not been confirmed, it was understood to be in excess of €20m.
Liberty Global previously acquired NTL and Chorus in Ireland, eventually merging them under the UPC brand.
The company also has a substantial presence across Europe, most recently acquiring control of Britain's Virgin Media group.
Through his other companies Liberty Media and Liberty Interactive, Mr Malone also has investments in US media companies, including Live Nation, Sirius XM satellite radio and shopping network QVC.
