Shareholders at housebuilder Abbey were told today that trading in the early months of its fiscal year had been good.

Abbey chairman Charles Gallagher said that activity across its business is ahead of the same time last year, with the UK's 'Help to Buy' scheme continuing to boost house sales there.

In Ireland, Mr Gallagher said the company's new development in Lucan, Co Dublin is underway.

He said the company also recently bought sites in Foxrock and Cornelscourt in Co Dublin and continues to look for new projects.

"The group is on track for a good year," he stated.
