Kerry Group has appointed Michael Dowling as its chairman designate to succeed present chairman Denis Buckley.

Denis Buckley, who has been Kerry chairman for 11 years and has served as a director since 1986, is to retire from the board at the end of the year.

The company said the appointment of Michael Dowling as chairman designate follows a selection process by the board's nomination committee.

Mr Dowling was first appointed to the Kerry board in 1998 and chaired the Board Audit Committee from 2000 until early 2013. He is a former Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in Ireland.
