Nest, the smart home technology firm bought by Google for $3.2 billion earlier this year, is to begin offering its products for sale in Ireland.
The company, founded by the former Apple employee who is credited with creating the iPod, makes a thermostat which learns about the householder's behaviour, as well as a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm.
According to the company, from later this month the products will be available in approximately 400 retail stores in Ireland, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. A further 150 outlets will be added by the end of the year.
So far the products are only available in the US, Canada and the UK. But as a result of buying the devices online and through other sales channels, the products have been used in 120 countries worldwide.
Nest said it will partner with local installers and energy companies in each country to assist with the rollout.
