A five day trade mission to Australia involving 32 Irish companies gets underway today.

The joint IDA Ireland-Enterprise Ireland mission will visit Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney and will include more than 40 high-level meetings and events during that time.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton will lead the mission, which will be focused on opportunities in the financial services, telecoms, healthcare technology and e-learning.

More than 140 Enterprise Ireland client companies are already doing business in Australia, while there are around 35 Australian companies currently operating in this country.

Mr Bruton said the trade relationship between Ireland and Australia was worth $2.8bn per year and he hoped this mission would help to grow that in the future.
