Aer Lingus Regional has recorded its busiest day since it began four years ago, according to its operator Stobart Air.

The airline said it has more than 5,500 passengers booked to fly on its 27 routes today, with many availing of its Cardiff and Bristol routes ahead of rugby’s Heineken Cup final.

Aer Lingus Regional said it is operating 100 flights on the same day for the first time ever, with passenger numbers up 52% on the same day of last year.

It said 300 of its passengers from British airports were using the service to make connecting Aer Lingus flights to the United States.
