The Department of Finance has had to revise last month's Exchequer figures after errors were discovered in how income tax and VAT returns had been measured.

It is estimated the figures are out by €100m, but they do not affect the overall tax-take for the month.

A Finance spokesman said the department was also checking whether the same error was made in February.

Revised figures for the two months will now be published at a later date.

In a statement, the Finance Department said that it, the Revenue Commissioners and the Central Bank are currently examining the issue.
