New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the volume of output in building and construction was 1.9% higher in the third quarter compared to the previous three month period.

The CSO said that civil engineering output rose by 16.6% while non-residential building increased by 6.9%.

However, due to the "exceptionally" low base from which this series starts, the CSO said that it will continue to monitor the quality of this data.

It also noted a 7.4% decrease in the volume of residential projects in the three months from July to September.

On an annual basis, the volume of construction output rose by 15.5%. The CSO said this reflects year on year rises of 26.5% and 18.6% in non-residential building and civil engineering projects respectively.

Residential building work decreased by 2.2% in the year to the end of September.
