Nine out of every ten homes in Ireland has broadband internet access, according to a new survey.
The research, commissioned by uSwitch.ie, found a third of people here spend over 20 hours online every week.
Adults spend on average 12 hours on the net each week, while 16-24 year olds spend between 11 and 20 hours connecting to the internet.
The survey found that general internet surfing is the most popular online activity, carried out by 91% of people.
87% of respondents use the internet for email, 68% for online banking and 63% for online shopping. Half of users surveyed watch films, TV programmes and video clips online, which almost a third download music.
