New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that during the three month period from July to September a total of 6,718 working days were lost to industrial disputes.
The CSO said this compares with 571 the same time last year.
The transportation and storage sector accounted for almost 95% of the total days lost in the first nine months of 2013.
Dublin Bus workers went on strike for three days in August, while Bus Eireann workers halted services for two days in May.
Today's CSO figures show that three industrial disputes began in the third quarter of 2013 and one dispute carried over from the second quarter.
There were eight disputes in progress in the first nine months of 2013 involving 5,541 workers with a total of 10,363 days lost.
