A multi-billion euro global battle between computer game console makers Sony and Microsoft is about to get under way.
At midnight in the United States, Sony's new Playstation 4 will go on sale, followed a week later by Microsoft's new Xbox One.
The Xbox One goes on sale in Ireland on 22 November, followed exactly one week later by the Playstation 4.
But retailers in Ireland are warning that demand is so strong for both that there will not be enough for everyone who wants one before Christmas.
GameStop, the world's largest multi-channel video game retailer, says unprecedented levels of pre-orders mean demand is likely to outstrip supply over the next five weeks.
Gamestop says it has had customers on a waiting list for both consoles for almost two years.
While those on the waiting list will likely get the machine that they ordered, those who have not will probably have to wait until after Christmas.
Speaking to RTÉ News, spokespeople for both Microsoft and Sony were not able to give a guarantee that they would have enough supply to meet demand in Ireland.
Both manufacturers have much riding on the success of their new products, and analysts estimate they will sell a total of 5m units in the run-up to Christmas.
