HMV's new digital music app, which was released just last week, has been temporarily removed from the iOS App Store by Apple.

The company said that Apple's removal of the app only prevents further iPhone users from downloading the app and those who have already downloaded the app will continue to be able to use it as before and will not notice any changes to the experience.

It said its developers are "working around the clock" to deliver an updated version of the iOS app for Apple's approval. It said this app will retain the Image Search and Sound Search functionality to discover music and listen to 30 second previews.

Since its launch on October 17, HMV said its digital music store has proven popular with customers with the apps downloaded over 10,000 times. It also received 4 star and 4.5 star reviews in the iOS and Google Play app stores respectively.

"It is disappointing that Apple has chosen to suspend an app that has proven to be very successful in only a few short days despite Apple having already approved the exact same version on September 15," commented Paul McGowan, Chairman of HMV.

"We are unable to explain the change in Apple's position as we have been given no explanation by them as to any difference they view between the approved version and the one suspended," he added.
