Delaney set to be chairman of SOLAS

Education and Skills Minister Ruairí Quinn is to appoint Pat Delaney as the chairperson of SOLAS, the new state training agency which replaces FÁS.

Mr Delaney has previously worked for IBEC and is a former director of the Small Firms Association.

It is expected that SOLAS will be established within the coming weeks. The new agency will be responsible for the integration, coordination and funding of further education and training.

The appointment is subject to approval by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection.
