Consumer prices rose 0.2% in the year to August, according to the Central Statistics Office.
The biggest increases over the last 12 months have been in alcohol and tobacco prices, which rose 5.4%, and education prices, which were up by 4.8%.
Meanwhile, prices in restaurants and hotels were up by 1.6%, largely due to the increased price of alcohol.
However they were largely countered by a 5.1% fall in the price of clothing and footwear, while the price of household items including furnishings fell 4%.
Transport price also fell, down 3.3% in the year.
