United Drug to buy Canadian firm, MCG, for €11.2m

United Drug has agreed a deal to buy the healthcare multi-channel marketing call centre and sample management business from Canadian firm Medical Communications Group.

The deal is worth €11.2m and is expected to be finalised within the next six weeks.

MCG is headquartered in Montreal in Canada and provides outsourced services to over 60 pharmaceutical and healthcare companies there. It has a workforce of about 60.

United Drug said the acquisition will help it build out its commercial proposition in Canada and follows the deal to buy Pharmexx Canada in 2012.

MCG will be come part of United Drug's sales, marketing and medical division, which is known as the Ashfield division.

''With out combined resources and expertise we look forward to building a market leading service offering in Canada,'' commented Liam Fitzgerald, the company's chief executive.
