Average weekly earnings up slightly between April and June

Average weekly earnings were slightly higher between April and June when compared to the same period of 2012, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office.

Preliminary estimates show average weekly earnings of €695.78 in the second quarter of 2013, 0.4% higher than in the same three months of last year.

However, revised figures for the first three months of this year show that average earnings fell 0.6% when compared to the first quarter of 2012, down to €692.54.

Average hourly earnings were €22.02 between April and June, 5c higher than the same period of 2012, while the average number of hours worked was up fractionally at 31.6.

Hourly earnings fell by 0.8% in a quarter-on-quarter comparison, however, though the hours worked each week rose 1.3%.
