The organisation representing the computer games industry in Ireland has called on the Government to introduce a special tax break to attract gaming companies to locate in the country.

The call, by Games Ireland, was made in Cologne at the world's largest computer games convention, Gamescom.

Despite yesterday's decision by game developer Big Fish to pull out of Cork, both Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland recognise gaming as a high growth and value sector.

Indigenous Irish companies like Havok have become significant players in the booming industry, while multinationals like Blizzard also have operations in the country.
