The past quarter saw an increase in the number of homes listed for sale as well as the number of mortgage approvals, according to figures from the Irish Banking Federation.

In its Housing Market Monitor for the second quarter of 2013, the IBF recorded 9,901 dwellings listed for sale - a 3.3% rise when compared to the same period of 2012.

There were more than 4,400 mortgage approvals during the period, a 9.7% rise on the second quarter of 2012.

Meanwhile the number of mortgage draw-downs was up 0.7% at 2,857, while the number of transactions rose 8% to 5,642.

More than 2,000 dwellings were completed in the past three months – 0.6% higher than in the same quarter of last year – but the number of commencements fell from 852 to 700.
