IEDR, which manages .ie domain registrations, said that total .ie domains at the end of last year were 182,284, up 5.3% year-on-year.
IEDR made an operating profit after tax of €282,706 in 2012, 18.9% lower than in 2011, and had registration fee income €2.6m over the year.
New .ie domain name registrations of 33,484 were 15% lower than in 2011.
IEDR said, though, that this was offset by 24,345 non-renewals, the result was a net addition of 9,139 domains to the .ie database - a 5.3% increase in domains by the end of 2012.
It said the figures were "satisfactory" given the depth of the economic downturn, which has continued to hit small and medium sized companies in Ireland.

In a statement, the IEDR said new registration growth in the first three months of 2013 was down by 6.4% compared to the same period in 2012.
It said this reflects a Europe-wide slowdown and ongoing difficult trading conditions in the Irish economy, in particular for the SME community.
