The Dublin Airport Authority has signed a twinning agreement with Beijing Capital International Airport which it says will help strengthen links between the two cities' airports.

The memorandum of understanding, which was signed in Beijing by DAA chief Kevin Toland, will see the two bodies co-operate more closely on commercial and tourism projects.

The DAA says the deal will also pave the way for a joint marketing initiative to encourage the establishment of direct services between Dublin and Beijing.

According to the Irish authority, more than 30,000 passengers fly between Dublin and Beijing every year however there are currently no direct services between the two cities.

The twinning agreement signed today also allows for commercial links between Beijing Airport and the DAA’s retail arm ARI to be examined.
