More than 1,000 companies have been established this month, according to business information site Vision-net, the highest number since the same month of 2008.
There were 1,014 companies established in the past month, compared to 819 in July 2012 and 1,028 in July 2008.
Vision-net said it had seen more limited companies established in the first six months of this year than in any period since the beginning of the recession.
Almost 2,570 companies and businesses began trading in July, down 3% on the same month of 2012, while 119 failed in the same period.
According to the figures the number of insolvencies was down 6% on July 2012 and 17% lower when compared to July 2011.
Of the insolvencies this month, 19% were of companies in the construction sector, 18% were in real estate and 15% were in professional services.
