Distribution and support services group DCC has reported a strong start to its financial year.

In a trading statement, it said it was trading “well ahead of expectations” in the first quarter to the end of June.

It said its largest division, energy, traded well ahead of both the prior year and budget, with the business benefiting from colder than normal weather conditions.

Revenues at its communications and IT division – DCC SerCom – are also ahead when compared to last year, while its healthcare division was performing in line with its budget.

The group said it now expects its annual operating profit to be 15% higher than the previous year, when the company earned £187 million.

DCC’s AGM takes place in Dublin today.
