US politicians "grandstanding" on Capitol Hill about Ireland's Corporation Tax rate should be taken with the same pinch of salt as Irish opposition politicians engaged in similar behaviour, Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte has said.

Mr Rabbitte said that Ireland was not a tax haven.

He said if the United States felt the time had come to look at its own tax code and how it interacts with other countries, then that was a matter for the US.

He was speaking as a conference held by think-tank TASC on restructuring the European economy.
