Spain's Labour Ministry said the number of people registered as unemployed fell by almost 100,000 in May as employers ramped up hiring in preparation for the busy summer tourist season.
The ministry said today that the total number of workers registered as jobless stands at 4.89 million.
Spain has been in recession for most of the past four years as the economy struggles to emerge from the collapse of its once-booming property sector.
Spain's unemployment rate was a record 27.2% during the first quarter.
