Northern-Ireland based technology company Allstate is to create 650 new jobs.

The company already employs more than 1,900 people at its main base in Belfast and at centres in Derry and Strabane.

Allstate Northern Ireland says all the jobs will be filled by 2016 at average salary levels in excess of £30,000.

The announcement was made by the company's Managing Director, Bro McFerran, and by Northern Ireland's First and Deputy First Ministers in Belfast this afternoon.

The company began operating in the city in 1999.

Until 2008 it was known as Northbrook Technology Ltd and specialises in delivering technology and business services to its US based parent, a giant insurance company with 37,000 employees.

Belfast-born mechanical engineer, Bro McFerran, was the company's first managing director in 1999 and he has been the driving force since then.
