RTÉ contributed €384 million to the Irish economy in 2011 excluding any tax paid to the State, according to an independent report by PwC.

The report also said that the broadcaster and its employees paid over €78 million in tax during the same year.

The PwC report, which was commissioned by RTÉ in December 2012, aims to determine the value of the broadcaster’s contribution to the economy.

It claims that RTÉ supported around 3,550 full-time equivalent jobs in the economy in 2011 and contributed €2.09 to the economy for every €1 spent on the TV licence fee.

The report found that the company reduced its operating cost by €87 million between 2008 and 2011, while the total funding available to RTÉ decreased by €90 million during the same period.
