UK visitors to Ireland down 3% during 3 months from September to November

The total number of trips to Ireland rose by 3.9% during the months from September to November 2012, new Central Statistics Office figures show.

A total of 1,595,700 trips were made here in the three month period, up 60,400 on the 1,535,300 trips made the same time in 2011.

The CSO notes that trips by residents of North America here jumped by 19.7% to 269,500, but the number of UK visitors fell by 3% to 673,700.

It also said that visitors from European countries other than the UK grew by 5.8% to 562,300 and visitors from other areas rose by 7.9% to 90,200.

Today's figures also show that the total number of trips made by Irish residents in the three month period increased by 4% to 1,564,800 from 1,504,800
