First results of the metallurgical test work being carried out by Conroy Gold and Natural Resources on its gold discovery at Clontibret in Co Monaghan have proven positive.

The company plans to develop a gold mine at the Co Monaghan site.

Conroy said the results come from test work by specialists Goldfields Limited. They include matters relating to the mill design that would be required to process output from the mine.

The company's chairman Professor Richard Conroy described the results as ''a further important step'' in the company's planned development of a gold mine at Clontibret.

''Test work is continuing and these results will be followed by results from the flotation test work," he said in a statement today.
