Bord Gáis has appointed John Barry as acting chief executive pending the appointment of a new CEO at the company.
The company said that the process to recruit a permanent CEO is underway and a decision will be announced in early 2013.
Mr Barry has been the managing director of Bord Gáis Networks since 2008, and is currently the Programme Director for the establishment of Irish Water.
He replaces John Mullins after the conclusion of Mr Mullins's five year tenure as CEO.
