Grocery sales rise for second month in a row

Grocery sales have risen for the second month in a row.

Figures from market research firm Kantar Worldpanel, show grocery sales rose by 0.4% over the three months to the end of November compared to the same quarter last year.

The pace of growth during November was the highest so far this year according to Kantar.

The research also shows that Aldi and Lidl remain the fastest growing retailers in the sector. The discount retailers have grown their combined market share by 15% to 12.5% over the past year.

Tesco remains the leader in the Irish grocery market with a 27.9% share of the market, up from 27.7% at the same time last year.

Dunnes Stores has shown the steepest fall in market share, down from 24.1% to 23.2%.
