New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the number of new cars licensed last month increased by 1.6% on the same time last year.
The CSO said that a total of 1,421 new cars were licensed in November, up from the 1,398 licensed the same time last year.
But the number of new goods vehicles licensed in November fell by 18.6% to 508 from 624 the same time last year.
The CSO said that in the 11 months to November, new car sales are down 12.6% while sales of new goods vehicles are down 2.6%.
Of the new cars sold last month, almost 74% were diesel while 25% were petrol. The most popular brands sold last month were Volkswagen (156), followed by Opel (141), Ford (136) and Toyota (119).
