Car sales higher in October but lower for the year overall

New car sales in October were 6% higher than last October, according to new figures from SIMI, the organisation that represents the Irish motor industry.

Overall, sales for the year are down by 12%.

SIMI says it expects that the end of the yearsales will be just below 80,000 - that's 10,000 fewer cars than last year.

SIMI says new car sales have fallen and both used cars and the Servicing and Repair sectors have seen reduced activity.

SIMI says the average price of a new car today is 10% less than 5 years ago.
