JJB Sports to close Irish outlets after failing to find a buyer

Sports retailer JJB will close four shops and two leisures centres in Ireland after failing to find a buyer for the business.

JJB Sports operated four retail outlets and two leisure centres based in Dundalk, Limerick, Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley.

The business employs 101 people, most of whom are part-time.

A statement issued on behalf of court-appointed liquidator Kieran Wallace of KPMG said the business will close this evening.

"Since his appointment on 1 October, 2012, the Liquidator has been actively looking for a purchaser of the business. Regretfully, none has emerged from this process," the statement said.

Staff at the shops and leisure centres have been informed of the decision to close. Members of the leisure centres who have paid their fees in advance are now creditors of the business.

The liquidator has asked that any members submit a claim for money due to them by the end of November.
