The chief executive of the National Consumer Agency, Ann Fitzgerald, is to step down from her position when her contract ends on Wednesday October 17.
She has informed the board of the National Consumer Agency that she will not be renewing her contact.
She has held the position of CEO since 2007.
"The NCA provides a real and constructive service to the public by enforcing consumer law, undertaking widespread consumer information campaigns, and advocating for consumer rights on a wide range of issues'', Ms Fitzgerald said.
''I am confident that this work will continue and will be enhanced under the new Consumer and Competition Authority,'' she added.
Last year the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, said he would scrap the board of the National Consumer Agency when it is merged with the Competition Authority.
