Northern Trust to create 400 jobs in Limerick

Financial services company Northern Trust is to create 400 new jobs in Limerick by 2017.

The IDA Ireland supported announcement will double the company's size in Ireland.

Northern Trust, which has facilities in Dublin, Limerick and Belfast, shed 220 jobs in July 2011 when it took over the securities business of Bank of Ireland.

It currently employs more than 300 people in Limerick.

The announcement was made by Ministers Richard Bruton and Michael Noonan in Limerick today.

The company, which was founded in Chicago in 1889, has assets of $704.3 billion under management.

It provides investment management, asset and fund administration and banking services in 18 US states and 16 international locations.

Catherine Duffy, General Manager for Northern Trust's Limerick office said that the facility is a fund administration centre of excellence for Northern Trust.

She said the facility supports organisations such as leading alternative, multi-manager and traditional investment managers, pension funds, multi-nationals, insurance companies and not-for-profit organisations.

She said the company would be recruiting high calibre graduates from local universities and colleges and also experienced professionals from across the globe.
