The Belfast Telegraph has appointed Mr Richard McClean as Managing Director of Independent News and Media Northern Ireland.
Mr McClean has been with the Belfast Telegraph for ten years and was appointed Deputy Chief Executive in 2010.
He succeeds Mr Michael Brophy who is stepping down after 42 years service with Independent News & Media.
A native of Belfast Mr McClean (46) is a graduate of De Monfort University, Leicester and Bristol Business School.
He joined the company as Marketing Director in 2002 from Dublin based Sales and Marketing business Allegro Ltd having started his career with soft drink manufacturer Cantrell & Cochrane in Belfast.
Mr Brophy served as reporter, Features Editor and Night Editor at the Irish Independent, Editor of the Evening Herald, Editor of the Irish Star, Managing Director of the Sunday World and laterally as Chief Executive of Independent News and Media (NI) in Belfast. He now plans to set up a media consultancy company.
Mr Joe Webb, Chief Executive, INM (Ireland) welcomed Mr. McClean's appointment and paid tribute to Michael Brophy saying "Michael Brophy has made an enormous contribution to our group over the past 42 years and he will be missed by all at INM."
