Despite strong growth internationally, sales in Ireland fell by 7%

Irish Distillers report that the volume of sales of Jameson whiskey was up 15% to 3.96m cases in the year to the end of June 2012.

Sales of the whisky grew 29% in the US, with 49 of the 50 states recording double digit growth.

Ireland, however bucked the trend with a fall of 7% in volume in bar sales reflecting the long term shift towards off licence purchases.

The growth of the brand in the US and internationally has led to a €100m expansion of the Midleton distillery, creating 60 new jobs.

IMPACT magazine ranks the Jameson brand 25th in its ranking of global spirit brands, up 4 places from last year.

In other areas of activity the Old Jameson Distillery in the Smithfield area of Dublin and the Jameson Experience Centre Cork enjoyed a 13% increase in visitor numbers during the January - June period with 160,500 predominately overseas visitors. On a full year basis, with Midleton in Cork, our two centres welcome almost 300,000 visitors each year.

Anna Malmhake, Chairman and CEO said that Jameson had been one of the group's most eminent success stories with sales expected to top 4 million cases this year.

She urged the Government not to ban alcohol event sponsorship, saying that the move would jeopardise much needed stimulus for domestic growth and recovery.
