Annual factory gate prices rose by 4.5% in July

Central Statistics Office figures show that monthly factory gate prices rose by 1.3% in July, as the price of energy products rose by 1.1% in the year.

As there was no change recorded in prices the same time last year, the CSO said the annual percentage change showed an increase of 4.5% in July.

This compared to a rise of 3.2% in the year to June 2012.

The CSO said that the biggest changes last month were increases in basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, where prices rose by 2.9%. 

Computer, electronic and optical products increased by 2.1% while other food products, including bread and confectionary, rose by 1.9%.

During the month, there were decreases in dairy products as prices fell 2.1%, motor vehicles and trailers (down 1.1%) and other manufacturing including medical and dental instruments and supplies (down 0.2%).

Breaking down the figures, the CSO said that all building and construction materials prices rose by 3.3% in the year since July 2011.

The price of energy products rose by 1.1% in the year since July of last year, while petroleum fuels rose by 2.8%. In July of this year, the monthly price index for energy products rose by 0.8% while petroleum fuels increased by 2%.
