Ardagh Group has announced it has completed the acquisition of the US-based Anchor Glass Container Corporation.

The deal was done from private investment funds managed by Wayzata Investment Partners involving a total cash consideration of €721m.

Anchor's headquarters is in Tampa, Florida. It is a manufacturer of glass containers serving the North American food and beverage industries.

It produces approximately 5.6 billion containers annually from its eight facilities, employs approximately 2,700 people and has annual revenues of approximately €656m.

Ardagh Group is a global leader in rigid packaging, producing metal and glass packaging solutions for most of the world's leading food, beverage and consumer product brands. It operates 100 manufacturing plants in 25 countries, employs approximately 17,700 people and has global sales in excess of €4.1 billion.

Ardagh closed its Irish Glass Bottle plant at Ringsend in 2002 but recent reports has suggested the company has plans to return to manufacturing in the Republic.
