Dutch unemployment hits 16-year high

The Dutch government statistics agency says unemployment rose to 6.5% in July, its highest level in 16 years.

The Central Bureau for Statistics said that while the figure remains low by European standards, it has been rising for a year.

In a note accompanying the numbers, the CBS noted that while people are losing jobs at about the same rate as earlier this year, fewer people are now finding new ones.
