ICON reports a 19% increase in revenue in the second quarter

Biotech firm ICON has reported a 19% increase in revenue to $277m in the second quarter of 2012.

Operating profit for the quarter after exceptional items was $11m, or 4% of revenue.

The company provides services to the pharmaceutical biotechnology and medical device industries and is based in Dublin.

ICON CEO Ciaran Murray welcomed the results.

He said he was pleased with the progress in the second quarter, with the company securing new business, and he said, improving profitability.

The company had a cash balance of $168m at the end of June.
