Garda and ODCE Anglo case back in court tomorrow

The investigation into the former Anglo Irish Bank by the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Director of Corporate Enforcement is due back before the Commercial Court in the morning.

The presiding judge at the Commercial Court, Mr Justice Peter Kelly, has previously strongly criticized the progress of the investigation.

It was last before the court in January when the judge granted lawyers for the Director of Corporate Enforcement a further six months to hold and examine electronic data seized from the bank in September 2009.

At that stage, the judge said the investigation "seemed to be taking a very long time indeed".

In May last year, the judge the failure to bring prosecutions relating to possible criminal wrongdoing in the commercial and corporate sector did nothing to instil confidence in the way the criminal justice system operated in relation to that sector.
