Retail sales in the second quarter of 2012 continued to fall according to Retail Excellence Ireland.
They record an average fall of 4.27% during the second quarter of 2012 when compared with the same period last year.
Retail Excellence Ireland say this is the 13th consecutive quarter in which sales declined and say that adverse weather conditions are a factor.
The retail body says that the worst performing sectors are garden centres, down almost 20%, furniture and flooring, down 9.5% and ladies' fashion down 7%.
The best performing sectors they say are hot beverages and pharmacy sales, both increasing their sales in the second quarter when compared with the same period last year.
The figures are compiled from data collected by over 3,500 retail shops in Ireland.
