Irish aircraft leasing group Avolon has announced a commitment to buy 30 new Boeing aircraft, which will bring its total committed fleet to 135.

The deal is worth $2.4 billion at list prices and the planes will be delivered from 2015 onwards.

Avolon has committed to buying ten new 737 Max 8s and five 737 Max 9s, as well as ten next generation 737-800s with reconfirmation rights for five 737 Max planes.

'Today's announcement reflects both the scale of our ambition and the strength of our financial backing. It also reflects our commitment to our customers as we enhance our fleet, grow our business and continue to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns for our shareholders,'' commented Avolon's chief executive Dómhnal Slattery.

The deal was announced at the Farnborough airshow today.
