US unemployment static at 8.2% in June

The United States added a meagre 80,000 jobs in June, the third month of weak job creation.

The US Labour department said the unemployment rate was unchanged from May at 8.2%.

The data showed a sharp slowdown in hiring, with the average pace in April, May and June falling to 75,000 jobs, only a third of the first quarter's level.

The economy added an upwardly revised 77,000 jobs in May and 68,000 in April.

The euro fell to $1.2362, down from the $1.2377 following the news, a drop of 0.3% from yesterday's close.
