Fewer people coming to Ireland - CSO

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show the total number of trips to Ireland fell by 1.1% to 1,639,700 in the three months from March to May.

This was an overall fall of 18,000 compared to the same time last year.

The CSO said trips by residents of the UK to Ireland dropped by 5.7% to 687,800 but the number of visitors from North America rose by 1% to 250,800.

The figures also reveal that visitors from European countries - other than the UK - increased by 1.9% to 616,800 while visitors from other areas jumped by 12.3% to 84,300.

The CSO said that the total number of trips made by Irish residents overseas fell by 2.1% to 1,522,700.
