New Central Bank figures show that total deposits held in Irish banks rose by 1% to €86.9 billion in the first quarter of the year.
The figure was down 0.7% on an annual basis but the decrease compares to rates of decline of 3.3% and 5% at the end of December and the end of September 2011 respectively.
Today's figures also show that total credit to Irish households fell by 1.1% in the quarter to €99 billion.
The figure was down 4.1% on an annual basis.
The Central Bank said that including mortgages, the total amount of loans to private households at the end of March was €148.4 billion.
