Aer Lingus Belfast story is just 'speculation'

A Belfast City Airport spokesman has described as "rumour" and "speculation" reports that Aer Lingus is planning to move its operations to the facility from Belfast International Airport.

Media reports had said that flights could be switched within weeks, with a formal announcement possible in the next few days.

The spokesperson said any such move, if it did come, would not happen immediately due to the demands of the current summer schedule.

Aer Lingus operates flights to eight European destinations from Belfast International including London Heathrow.

An Aer Lingus spokesman also dismissed the story as ''speculation''. ''We have nothing to say about it other than that we don't comment on speculation,'' he added.
